Accessibility statement

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA across the whole site, and we treat a calculator you cannot operate as a broken calculator.

What we have built in

  • Every form control is reachable and operable by keyboard, in a logical focus order, with a visible focus ring.
  • Every input has a real <label>; grouped choices use fieldsets with legends.
  • Error messages are tied to their field programmatically, and an error summary appears above the form.
  • Results regions use aria-live="polite", so a new estimate is announced without stealing focus.
  • No information is carried by colour alone: intensity labels, BMI categories and warnings all carry text.
  • No drag-only controls. Every slider has a paired number field you can type into.
  • Touch targets on primary actions are at least 44 by 44 pixels.
  • Layouts reflow at 200% zoom and at 320 pixels wide without horizontal scrolling or loss of content.
  • Motion respects prefers-reduced-motion; nothing autoplays, flashes or moves for longer than five seconds.
  • Heading order is sequential, landmarks are used, and a skip link opens the main content.
  • Both light and dark themes are checked for 4.5:1 body text contrast and 3:1 for large text and interface borders.

Known limitations

  • Long comparison tables scroll horizontally on very small screens; the same figures are repeated in the text above each table.
  • Some third-party advert slots, where present, are outside our direct control; we reserve fixed space so they cannot shift content.

How we test

Keyboard-only walkthroughs of every calculator, screen-reader checks with NVDA on Windows and VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, 200% and 400% zoom, reduced-motion mode, forced colours, and automated checks in continuous integration.
